Pen2Bow is a unique violin bow MIDI controller designed to operate with the Apple Pencil on the iPad. It distinguishes between linear and circular pencil movements, allowing users to create bow movements accurately. The circular motion feature extends the bow infinitely, eliminating the need for constant bow changes to avoid reaching its limit. Precise detection of intended bow changes ensures accurate inclusion in the MIDI output. Pen2Bow harnesses the full potential of Apple Pencil sensors to produce four continuous MIDI controllers: Velocity, Force, Tilt, and Orientation. These controllers can be employed to animate virtual instruments like violins or synthesizers.

Pen2Bow is compliant with CoreMIDI standards, facilitating control over virtual instruments on either the same iPad or an external computer. Users can establish various connections between the iPad and a computer, including via an external MIDI interface, wirelessly through WiFi, or directly via USB. The software is engineered for minimal latency, offering approximately 10ms delay on iPad Pro 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch (2nd gen) models and 20ms on iPad (6th gen), iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and 12.9-inch (1st gen). Pen2Bow leverages the high-resolution positional data provided by Apple Pencil at 240Hz to calculate precise bow velocities effectively.
